Signing Ceremony between Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Myanmar and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) regarding Japanese Grant Aid Project for the improvement of aircraft surveillance system in Myanmar was held at the DCA headquarter in Yangon on 29 April 2019.

Aiming to effectively and efficiently manage growing air traffic and to enhance surveillance capability, the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), a division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) conducted the survey program in December 2016 on the modernization of Air Traffic Control Systems in Myanmar at 3 major international airports located respectively in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

In accordance with the timeline of the project implementation, Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) consisting of both Primary Surveillance Radar / Secondary Surveillance Radar (PSR / SSR) will be installed in Yangon and Mandalay, and SSR in Nay Pyi Taw. Subsequently, Multi Sensor Data Processing System (MSDPS), Voice Communication Switching System (VCSS) & Approach Radar Simulator (SIM) System will also be installed at New Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) in Yangon phase by phase.

Upon the completion of successful implementation of this project, it will be helping make air traffic control operations safer and more efficient that improve airspace efficiency, enable higher levels of service to airspace users and reduce air traffic controllers' workload.

DCA Myanmar thanks Japan for its assistance rendered, in particular, to improve the aviation surveillance capability of Myanmar for the benefit of all stakeholders within Myanmar and beyond.
